I think bio-engineering and habitat engineering are smarter

I posted this in the comments section of a science post about the current thinking that the only solution to climate change is climate engineering. I think that is a bad idea. Not just because it encourages the fantasy of terraforming other planets and wild irrational space travel. But also because it's a wrong headed idea based on a premise that we don't have the technology to survive and thrive in any environment. It is in our best interests to engineer our way out of our current environmental mismatch. My TEDTalks.com fueled diatribe follows.

Geo-engineering is a bad idea and a waste of resources that should be going to bio-engineering and habitat engineering research, development, and manufacturing. The threats to our existence on our planet are much farther ranging than climate change. Climate change is a natural process. Ice ages are where the glaciers that created the great lakes and that have recently melted away in other places come from. We've got a swing by the gravitational force of the black hole at the center of our galaxy through direct alignment with our Sun. Which should be an interesting demonstration of just how powerful the magnetic and gravitational field of a black hole at that distance is when focused through a gravitational field as powerful as our Sun's. We've got the possibility of several disasters that are happen on a cyclical basis around that same time. The two super volcanoes. One right here in or I should say that is Yellowstone Park. The occasional reversal, polarity flipping, and 1000 year disappearances of the earths magnetic field that coincidentally keeps the Sun from burning off our atmosphere. There is also the Atlantic shelf that should wipe the Americas clear of anything not bedrock if it shifts significantly. And that is not even mentioning the many untracked solar and stellar objects that could really ruin our day or the fact that the moon is slowly floating away and will have a massive effect on our climate.

My point is that if we are planning to survive beyond our infancy. Yes I say infancy because it is infantile to chase after the idea of money as a life goal. And yes I say idea because that is all money or any possession is. Let us come up with a plan that lays out exactly what kind of technology we would need to survive all of these events. No, not survive, but thrive in the face of all of these events and more. The "rich" are holding back the future because they incorrectly believe it is unprofitable to them to have everyone off the grid and living free. If you could satisfy all of your energy needs from the Sun via locally and communally generated wind power, water power, sea power, thermo-electric, magnetosphere, solar collector, or what have you. And you dealt with others as equals. Everyone being responsible for themselves and the world as a whole without arbitrary governance by ignorance encouraged by profiteers. And you were educated about the realities of our ability to harness even the simplest of technologies to solve all of our problems like drought, famine, hunger, transportation, shelter, communication, and survival. You would no longer be a consumer. In fact for the cost of a car (~$20,000) you could buy all the equipment needed to setup a micro-factory and be a manufacturer. We need to collaborate on using the technology that is already available to build the technology needed to thrive during extreme adversity. We must evolve beyond the womb of the Earth. To do so we don't need to travel to other planets and terraform them to match our requirements. What we need is to evolve by raising the bar and saying we aren't dependent on a very fragile environment to survive. We have the technology we need the will.

A Briefer History of Time

I am amazed at how many of the practical implications of a correct understanding of the universe and the implications of the Theory of Relativity are completely lost on most science fiction authors. Either that or most authors are so concerned with the wrong headed idea that space travel and intergalactic communication are necessary that they gloss over the simple facts of physics.

Time travel to the future is a practical reality. I've read debates between characters in science fiction books about the effect of the constant acceleration of a gravity well like the earth on stationary objects on it's surface that seemed to be inconclusive. Well physics defines time as relative and gravity wells as warped space time so guess what living on the Earth's surface is flinging us into the future by the very fact that a gravity well slows down time. The reach and power of the Earth's warp on space and time is revealed in the orbit of the moon. The moon is traveling in a straight line. Space time is so warped by the density of matter at the center of the Earth that space time around the Earth is curved right around into a sphere! The Earth is flat! It's a space time plane warped into a sphere.

The effect is very dramatic when you consider the fact that one second on the surface of the Sun is equivalent to one year on Earth. Just think of the implications that the Mars Rovers have lasted not just a lot longer than they were designed to last but that they are also on a smaller planet with a smaller space time warp with a smaller slowing of time. Meaning that even more time has passed for the rovers on Mars than for us on Earth. Or you consider that voyager 1 has been travelling for over a decade without the benefit of any space time warp to slow down the passage of time for it except for the Sun. It would be interesting to calculate an estimate of the real length of voyager 1's journey as experienced by voyager 1 and then translated back into Earth years.

I'm only halfway through the book and am heartened to read facts about our Universe that support my theory that space travel by humans is a waste of energy. Any intelligent entity with a basic understanding of physics will know that in order to know anything about the Universe you only need to look inward to the quantum for understanding and outward to the universe for information.

Makes me wonder why the author encourages space travel and colonization. When it seems that sustainability and peaceful coexistence is a more reasonable approach to avoiding extinction. I know there are extinction level events that will require preparation through technological advancement in order to avoid catastrophe. Like supervolcanoes, super tsunamis, and ice ages. But in my opinion a more concerted effort with global cooperation is required. Instead of waiting for Ragnarok or Judgement Day and trying to start the whole process over again on another planet.

Bush Intervened to Weaken EPA Smog Rules

Thanks for the smog. What a creep! He didn't just allow car emission standards to be lowered but in order to do it he had the scientific and Supreme Court mandated acceptable levels of car emission toxins increased.

What a cretin! I hope he ends up spending his final days in LA or some suburb of it. So he can enjoy the benefits of all the exhaust fumes he is single handedly creating by getting smog laden lungs.

What a jerk! When you only crave money. You only get money. And if you think that is a good thing then enjoy your money. Life has a way of teaching the greedy to find a more worthwhile pursuit.

Jet Contrails being used for Global Cooling

I located the PBS report linked in the title for this post after I read this posting on one of my favorite sci-fi author's blog. He doesn't believe in global warming or at least not in the science used to connect it to CO₂ so far.

Although I believe the shrinking of the glaciers are a clear sign the end of the water is nigh upon us. I tend to believe the science hasn't quite modeled the problem in terms of the glaciers.

If the glaciers once covered most of the world during the ice ages then the melt process is just the continuation along those lines. I take it a step further and say the real problem isn't the temperature increase but the disappearing glaciers. It looks like the short term problem of creating drinking water may already be solved by the desalination plants. But the solution to the longer term problem of a coming ice age isn't being addressed and may end up being the easier problem to deal with if our technology keeps advancing at the exponential pace it's on.

Personally I feel we are all being held back simultaneously by not being nomadic and being told the solution to our energy crises is to live in close proximity in cities. How blind do you have to be to not see all the free energy given out by the sun? Don't be fooled. We all know it only takes a magnifying glass or a mirror to release the heat energy at a level that is usable for generating energy.

Getting more energy out than you put in is a common theme in management. Under pay your workers and get more of their time. Contribute to a politician's campaign and get a contract that only costs you a fraction of a percent of what you donated. I've been thinking of oil and water rights after my last post.

Found those interesting sites in my last post. One of which led me to thinking about trying out Adsense. I ended up stumbling across a video with "secret" techniques and such. And clicked a link to a video that I guess is about the same concept. You should check it out. It's old news from 1995. I've never seen it before. And it's curious how no one talks about it when they talk about hydrogen.

Equinox - It Runs on Water (Free Energy - 1995)

What I would really have liked to have seen is one of those devices powering itself. Take the hot water/steam supersonic pump for example. It could have been split to run part of the steam back to spin the shaft directly or to a turbine to power the motor. Now that would have been some perpetual motion worth seeing. Even feed the steam back into the supersonic pump after passing it through a turbine. If it could keep above 100% output even with a turbine. It would be interesting to see how long it would take a closed loop steam system to explode from the continually increasing pressure from the ever hotter steam.

I have several theories on what's happening. The frequency based ones may be tapping into either an extra energy overlaid/embedded in the electricity. Supposedly there is a medium through which all energy passes. Does AC or DC make a difference? Or is it something inherent to electrons? Sort of like QED(Quantum Electro Dynamics) the Theory of Light. Specifically, the fact that photons are going in every direction at once but the directions at the edge cases are canceling each other out. You can broadcast electricity over a the air at certain frequencies. Maybe electricity from earth's core is operating at these frequencies and only needs a catalyst stream of electricity operating in that frequency range to tap into it. No I'm not joking. It's called the Earth Magnetic field and it's very real. In fact the way the earth spins it might as well be a planet sized turbine.

Another possibility is that the frequency stuff is tapping in the Earth or the Sun's or the black hole at the center of the galaxy's gravitational field. Maybe the research into gravity has it all wrong. Maybe it's all just electrons and the force of nuclear attraction and repulsion. Maybe gravity is just electrons expressing attraction at a different frequency. Meaning that the perpetual and relatively free force that is gravity is just electricity as a frequency that can be brought back into phase by electricity running at a similar frequency.

I have another theory that involves the fact that gravity seems to me to be a force without a cost. Where is the energy for gravity coming from. Energy in is equal to energy out. Does that mean that gravity by it's very nature is using zero point energy? If that's true and it's expression is electrons and it's unlimited then it's just a matter of tapping into it. The Earth already converts the gravitational force of the Sun to a spin which generates the planet sized magnetic field. The Sun is an expression of gravitational energy by the process of it's own formation.

If you forget for a moment everything we've been taught about the scarcity (scare tactic?) of resources and thereby energy one might see all the free and virtually unlimited energy all around.

One day I'm going to stick a waterwheel in a stream and generate my own electricity just for kicks.

The Coming Hydrogen Economy - A Ranting Diatribe About Our Propaganda Economy

I'm posting my comment made on Techdirt in response to a fluff piece of propaganda about the wake of the ethanol subsidies. In my comment which you can read below I forgot to attack the premise of the article/propaganda. So here goes. Big corn/big ethanol/big oil wants to cut out the subsides for corn because they don't really grow all the corn but they do control all the ethanol refineries. So what this peice of propaganda is saying is get rid of the corn subsidies. That part is a no brainer. The why is the better part. Big ethanol will still get it's new and ever increasing subsidies to make ethanol out of corn. At which point they hope to lower the price of corn again and screw the average farmer. But big corn won't suffer because they have politicians in their pocket who will make private subsidies just for big corn. And with that added little insight I give you my original comment:

Connect the dots people. Our politicians haven't supported an alternative fuel much less mandated it's use ever. And big oil has more money than ever to throw around and squash any alternatives. So guess why they didn't stop ethanol? They are the same company and raising the price of corn while getting a subsidy to grow it is ok with big oil if you are a subsidiary of big oil.

When corn based ethanol was about 96 cents a gallon on the commodities market and Brazilian sugar cane based ethanol was about 52 cents a gallon big oil/corn had congress pass about a 44 cents tax on Brazilian sugar cane based ethanol.

52 + 44 = 96 Get it?

It's not a conspiracy just economics. Big corn is so tightly bound to big oil and has been since the days of refer madness. Corn is a crappy crop. Corn leeches all the nutrients out of the soil. Corn needs tons of fertalizer made from ammonia a by product of the oil refinery process. Big oil likes corn. That is why corn is subsidized. Other crops like hemp which magically got grouped with the canibus ban are much better producers as a crop and leave the soil in better shape than when they were planted. i.e. No need for ammonia based fertilizers. Big corn had hemp crops burned to the ground after the hemp tax stamp act/scam was created. By our government not issuing hemp tax stamps even to this day all hemp crops with out the hemp tax stamp are illegal. There is no process in place to get a hemp tax stamp. Our tax dollars at work. Squashing the open market one cheap and environmently friendly product at a time while funding propaganda to make it all seem like common sense.

Back to ethanol. Ethanol has always been an alternative fuel. Bo and luke Duke were always on the wrong side of the law for selling/producing it. Remember that episode with the super fuel? They ran their car on it. Imagine that a no toxic fuel that is better than gasoline but runs in cars without conversion. And its been available all this time. What a big surprise that it's only been legal on farms for farm nachinery use only all this time. Big oil have a hand in it? Kind of a rhetorical question. So that 10% ethanol mandate they sell with their propaganda and we eat it up. They used to let you have 0% ethanol in your tank and now they let you have 10% time to celebrate. Ha, not very funny.

And what exactly did you think farm aid was about or did you get short term memory loss from all that corn syrup in everything you eat. First we bankrupt small farms because those people are outside of the system. That means they are self sufficient or didn't you know they stick blue dye in farm based ethanol in farms? If you were from a farm town you'd know because the cops would be pulling you over periodically to check your tank with a stick to see if your fuel was blue. Big oil can't go letting the free market keep your money out of their pockets. That would be unamerican. Then the banks/oil/big growers swoop in and pick up all that land cheap and grow corn on it in preparation for ethanol. Corn based ethanol being the only way for americans to pay for their gasoline several times over via subsides on corn.

Watch Who Killed the Electric Car? if you want to get your head around the hydrogen economy propaganda. Wind power is already getting squashed by the new requirement that the FAA has to approve new wind towers. See hemp tax stamp above for a clue. i.e. put a windmill in your backyard and expect the same treatment as the Dukes of Hazzard get.

I mean what kind of idiot doesn't see all the free energy sources provided as side effects of the sun all around them everyday. It made me think why doesn't every city with a river accessible to them harness that power with a water wheel or 300? It is renewable and for all practical purposes unlimited and free. Are they that unobservant or are they hamstrung by big oil. Cause you can bet after our politicians give out water power rights the same as they did for oil to big oil you'll be paying for it twice at a minimum and be thanking them for doing it because of the propaganda.
